Get ready for this Big Shout Out Moment because let me introduce you to our little Gardener in the Glebe, Jos.
Jos and his mummy Una grabbed the opportunity to have some fun in growing their own food. The ‘I can grow’ initiative by the Acorn group (hosted by the Strabane/Derry Council), delivered Jos a planter and soil and all the seeds and baby veg needed. The great thing was the compost used was from all the brown bins in Strabane Derry area! Jos has told us how much he loved the programme and I think Una is very proud of herself too.
Jos enjoyed growing potatoes, carrots, peas, lettuce, spring onions, beetroot, onions and radishes! He is now a leading horticulturist in the Glebe and today In Miss Duffy’s room the children made chips from the largest potatoes I have ever seen in my life. Wendy our new cook heard about the cooking going on in Primary 2/3, so much that she came over to check out her competitor. Wendy was well impressed by those tasty chips.
If you are ever looking fine food for dinner, then the place to call is Jos’ house. But be aware with his success as a horticulturist, his prices won’t be cheap!
